Nigeria: Legal Aid Council Rebranded

To conform to the current democratic dispensation, the law was repealed in 2011 by the Legal Aid Act 2011. The Bill to that effect was passed by the House of Representatives on 19th October, 2010, the Senate on 1st June, 2011 and signed by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on 3rd June, 2011. This new law is also meant to comply with international standards of providing legal aid and access to justice fund into which financial assistance would be made available to the council on behalf of indigent citizens to prosecute their claims in accordance with the constitution.
