Oyo Plans Legislation to Protect Women, Children Against Violence

Oyo is working on a bill when which passed and signed into law will protect women and children against violence, Governor Abiola Ajimobi has disclosed.Ajimobi stated this at the opening of a two-day national summit by Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association (OYSOWA) in Ibadan, Wednesday, saying the proposed legislation was necessary to guard against unwarranted violence against women, children and other vulnerable group of persons.Although the governor observed there had been no rampant cases of violence against women and children in the state, he stated that the bill would serve as a pro-active measure against such unwholesome practices. Full story...

The Nigerian Local Content Act: A Status Report

The Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010 (the “Local Content Act” or “NCA”) received presidential assent on Thursday, 22nd April, 2010. Now in operation, the Act seeks to increase indigenous participation in the Nigerian oil and gas industry (the “Industry”) by prescribing, inter alia, minimum thresholds in relation to the utilization of local services and goods. The Local Content Act which derives from the Nigerian Content Policy focuses on the promotion of value addition to the Nigeria economy through the utilization of local raw materials, products, and services in order to stimulate growth of indigenous capacity. Full story...
