Since a suit filed before the Federal High Court by the Civil Aviation Round Table Initiative Limited, and an aviation expert, Captain Dele Ore (rtd) stalled further proceedings in the coroner 's inquest into the June 3, 2012 Dana air crash before Magistrate Alexander Oyetade Komolafe and the subsequent re-validation of its operating licence, Nigerians have been pessimistic on what becomes of the coroner inquest set up by the Lagos State government on the death of the passengers as well as those killed on the ground.

Ibe, who lost his wife Nancy Echendu, daughter Uzoma Jennifer, and his in-law's wife, Maria Okwulehie, in the ill-fated Dana air crash has accused the Federal Government of insensitivity in lifting the ban on Dana Airline. Dana Airline, which was grounded by government following the June 3, 2012 air crash, was Wednesday restored its licence to fly by the Federal Government which claimed that audit reports on Dana were satisfactory. Dana Air Crash: TV Stations To Appear Again Tomorrow
THE coroner presiding over the inquest into the death of 153 passengers of the ill-fated Dana Air plane which crashed in Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos State on June 3, Mr Alexander Komolafe, on Monday, re-scheduled the appearances of Television Continental, Channels and African Independent Television (AIT), earlier fixed for Monday, till tomorrow, to enable the media houses to show clips of the crash scenes in their library.Full story...

Foreign Airlines Boycott Nigerian Airspace Due To Poor Infrastructure
Following the numerous infrastructural and logistic challenges of the Nigerian aviation sector, reports have emerged that at least 10 foreign airlines now boycott the Nigerian airspace thereby leading to loss of revenue. The airlines now reportedly reroute their flights through neighboring countries even as key officials in the aviation agencies and workers’ unions had inundated the Minister of Aviation, Stella Uduah-Ogiemwonyi with letters on the deplorable state of the communications equipment. Dana Crash: Coroner Issues Bench Warrant On Absentee Witnesses
Oil companies and emergency relief agencies are to be issued with bench warrant to appear on Monday before the Lagos Coroner making inquest into the ill-fated Dana aircrash of June 3, 2012, at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos. The Coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, stated this while responding to the submission made by Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) whose law firm, Falana and Falana Chambers, petitioned the Lagos State Chief Coroner, Justice Lateefat Okunnu, for an inquiry into the incident. Nigeria: DANA Crash Compensation May Spark Legal Tussle

Speculation is mounting in the aviation sector that lawyers are inciting the relatives of the victims of the June 3, 2012 Dana Air flight 0992 crash in Lagos, which killed 153 people on board for higher compensation.There is also an allegation that the lawyers are aiming for a long-drawn legal battle that may last longer than the period of time Dana Air insurers will be obligated to pay compensation, and not without huge legal fees. Although from the emotional and human angle, no amount of money can replace a loved one who gruesomely died in a plane crash, but the relatives of the dead at the various fora had canvassed for higher compensation. Many other Nigerians, besides these people who lost their dear ones, share the same feeling that the compensation of $100,000 is not enough.

Dana Crash - 9 Victims' Families get $30,000 Each.

More Than One Month After a Dana Aircraft Crashed at IjuIshaga in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area of Lagos State, the airline's management confirmed, yesterday, that nine people, who are next of kin to some of the crash victims, have received their interim benefits.The airline is mandated to pay 30 percent benefits of the $100,000 insurance cover to victims' next of kin within 30 days of crash.Head of Corporate Communication for Dana, Mr. Tony Usidamen, yesterday, told Vanguard on phone: "As of July 2, the airline had received completed insurance forms for 64 of the victims, four of which are our staff members.

Dana Air Crash- Fashola Assures Compensation for Victims' Families.

As the dust generated by the Dana air crash is yet to settle, the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has promised family members whose relations were involved in the ill-fated plane crash free legal aid in getting compensation from the airline.
The Governor who made this declaration during the week at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja ,assured that the office of the Public Defender will be available to handle all such legal matters free of charge for those who need the service.Full story
