Jonathan Blames Selfish Motives for the Fuel Subsidy Protests


The controversies surrounding the fuel subsidy removal protests were brought to the fore by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday. Jonathan pointed fingers at an unnamed class of people at sponsoring the  Occupy Nigeria group,  that were behind the subsidy removal mass protests in Lagos and some other parts of the country.He said the protest was not a true reflection of the position of the masses but that of those behind  them.The president made this known at the 52nd Independence anniversary lecture on Tuesday. We Will Resist Any Attempt To Shield Subsidy Fraud Suspects – Labour Union




The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), has said that they will resist any form of attempt by the Federal Government to cover up oil marketers indicted in the various committee reports on the oil subsidy fraud.The congress rejected the withdrawal of charges against some of the oil subsidy fraud suspects by the government saying only the courts had the exclusive power to make such decisions.Full story...

Fuel Subsidy Trial: More Suspects To Be Arraigned Today



LAGOS— Five days after they were granted bail by an Ikeja High court, sons of the incumbent and former chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mahmud Tukur and Ahmadu Ali and three other oil marketers who were docked last Thursday, are still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. This came as more of the alleged oil subsidy scam suspects will be arraigned today. The three others arraigned alongside Mahmud and Ahmadu were Abdulahi Alao, son of Alhaji Arisekola Alao, an Ibadan based businessman; a Sierra-Leonean, Christian Taylor and Ochonogor Alex. They were accused of defrauding the Federal Government of N304 billion in the oil subsidy scam. Full story...

Subsidy Scam: Court Grants Bail to Suspects Except Alao


A  Lagos High court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday granted bail to the sons of the former and serving national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Ahmadu Ali and Bamaga Tukur, and some other suspects indicted in the oil subsidy scam. Mamman Nasir Ali, Mahmud Tukur, and two others were granted bail by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo in the sum of N20 million each with two sureties in like sum, one of the sureties according to the court must be a blood relation and another a level sixteen officer in the Federal or State civil service. Full story...

Nigeria: Fuel Subsidy Fraud - Attorney-General's Absence Stalls Trial

The absence of the Minister of Justice and Attorney- General, Mohammed Adoke at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja on Wednesday stalled the expected arraignment of some oil marketers by the Federal Government and Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC. Also absent in court were two key persons among the defendants.This development was said to have compelled Justices Habeeb Abiru and Adeniyi Onigbanjo to adjourn the matters before them till Thursday. Full story...

AGF Says Indicted Fuel Marketers Won't be Prosecuted.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, in a sworn affidavit deposed to at a Federal High Court, Abuja, has stated that oil marketers indicted by the report of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the Monitoring of the Fuel Subsidy Scheme will not be prosecuted.
