Break Any Law During the Sallah and be Crushed – Police


Police in Plateau State have warned that lawlessness will not be tolerated during Sallah in Jos.Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Ayeni, stated this at a meeting with stakeholders in Jos on Tuesday, adding that, the police were prepared to arrest any person or group of persons planning to foment trouble during the festive period (Thursday and Friday).He also  warned  worshipers to steer clear of  the Rukuba Road and Polo Field prayer  grounds during the period, saying they are still under ban. Full story...

Lagos Police in Massive Arms Haul

The Lagos State Police Command has recovered some weapons including over 10,000 rounds of ammunition in the state.Parading three armed robbery suspects in connection with the discovery on Tuesday, Umar Manko, State Police Commissioner, described it as the biggest cache recovered from criminals in the history of the state.The items recovered include nine AK 47 rifles, two GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun), one RPG launcher, also known as rocket propel grenade launcher, 225 AK 47 live ammunition, 260 rounds of GPMG live ammunition and five dynamites with detonators. Full story...

Ozuah: Police Maintain Innocence as Principal Witness Flees

In the face of mounting public outcry against the alleged murder of 36-year-old Ugochukwu Ozuah, the Lagos State Police Command has maintained its stance that the deceased was shot by suspected armed robbers in police uniform and not police officers as alleged.This came as the principal witness in the entire saga, Omene Irikefe, the deceased’s friend who was also with him on that fateful night was alleged to have fled to safety following purported attempts to arrest him.It would be recalled that the deceased was killed last Thursday by gunshots allegedly fired by some police officers at Gbagada barely five days after his wedding ceremony with his heartthrob, Joan. Full story...

Police Record Major Breakthrough in Fight Against Crime •Smash 3-Man Syndicate, Recover 19 Stolen Vehicles

The Nigeria Police said on Sunday, that they had, in the renewed determination to rid the society of crimes, recorded a major break-through between August 22 and 28, saying operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s special task force on heinous crimes successfully raided some notorious criminal hide-outs in Kaduna.A statement from the Force Headquarters on Sunday said, “the special task force, working on a tip-off and in reaction to the upsurge in incidents of car theft in some parts of the country, proceeded to Kaduna State on August 22, 2012, where it smashed and arrested a three-man syndicate that specialised in car theft. Nigeria Police Launches Gender Policy

Ahmed Worried Over Police Funding

Kano — Kano Police Command, yesterday, said it uncovered and defused no fewer than 963 Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, picked randomly from various parts of Kano from January till date.Similarly, 86 suspects, known as Yandaba, were apprehended by police authorities from several black spots across the state.

A TOYOTA Hilux vehicle driver, Mr. Godday Umoren, on the employ of Azikel dredging and construction company, was yesterday evening allegedly shot dead by a trigger-happy policeman at the Swali Market junction in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.Meanwhile, a police inspector attached to one of the new generation banks on Warehouse Road, Apapa, Lagos, was yesterday killed during a shoot-out with a five-man robbery gang who invaded the bank.Full story...

650,000 Policemen Required for Security Challenges


About 650,000 police officers would be needed to adequately confront the security challenges facing Nigeria, a university lecturer, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, said in Ado Ekiti on Thursday. Ajayi, a Professor of Political Science, Ekiti State University, (EKSU) gave the figure in a paper he delivered at the annual Michael Opeyemi Bamidele Lecture Series, held at Christ School, Ado-Ekiti. The paper is entitled: ``Legislating in a Troubled Times: National Assembly and the Challenges of Legislating for Good Governance in Nigeria''. 
The don, who is also the Head the institution’s Department of Political Science, said that shortage of personnel had been the major constraints militating against effective policing in the country. Full story...
