Court Strikes Out Suit Against Salami’s Recall

ABUJA — The coast is getting clearer for the probable reinstatement of the embattled President of the Court of Appeal, PCA, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, as the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, dismissed the suit that sought to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from okaying his recall.Justice Abdul Kafarati struck-out the suit after the plaintiff, Mr Wilfred Okoli, prayed the court to discontinue further hearing on the matter. Full story...

N32.8bn Pension Scam: Again, Court Adjourns for Ruling


An Abuja High Court has again adjourned to Nov. 6, for ruling on an application to quash criminal charges in the N32.8 billion Police Pension Fund scam against three of the six accused persons.It will be recalled that Justice Abubakar Talba had on July 17, fixed Oct. 9, for ruling on the motion filed by Atiku Kigo (a former Permanent Secretary), Mrs Veronica Onyegbula (Cashier) and Sani Zira (ICT Officer).The three, who are charged along with Esai Dangabar (Director), Ahmed Wada (Director) and John Yusufu (Assistant Director), are members of staff of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, currently on suspension. Full story...

Akingbola’s Trial Stalled, to Conclude Defence Oct 10

The trial of  former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank PLC (now Access Bank), Dr Erastus Akingbola, was stalled before Justice Habeeb Abiru of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday, the court adjourning further hearing till Ocober 10 for Dr Akingbola to conclude his defense.The matter could not go on as scheduled due to the absence of a witness subpoenaed to tender some documents on behalf of the accused.During yesterday’s proceedings, Akingbola’s counsel, Chief Felix Fagbohungbe (SAN), informed the court that a court-subpoenaed witness, Ebobo Gloria Alero, who was supposed to tender some documents in court, could not make it. Full story...

Court Summons Police Officer Over Banker’s Murder

A LAGOS High Court sitting in Ikeja has summoned an investigating Police Officer, Sergeant Cletus Bayern, and threatened to arrest him if he once again fails to appear before the court on Friday to conclude his testimony.Sergeant Bayern formerly with the Aswani Police station was the officer who investigated the case of Akolade Arowolo who was accused of killing his banker wife, Titilayo Omozoje Arowolo, at their home in Isolo last year. When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Lateefa Okunnu yesterday, a Director in the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), Olayide Eboda, told the court that when they called Sergeant Bayern on Friday, he told them that he was in his village attending to the burial of his father and won’t be back until weekend. Full story...

Fake Admission in UI: Suspect Arraigned in Court for Threatening Don’s Life

The magistrate, sitting at Court 13, Iyaganku, Mrs P.O. Adetuyibi, on Monday, proceeded on the hearing of a case  bordering on alleged threat to life brought by Professor Ademola Da-Sylva of the University of Ibadan, against one Femi Eyiowuawi, who is a suspected member of a syndicate involved in admission racketeering in the premier university.In the suit with case number MI1441C, the prosecutor, Mr Adamson Acheni, told the court that the defendant was charged on a two-count charge of conspiracy and threat to the life of Professor Da-Sylva, who is the Director of General Studies Programme at U.I. and  a lecturer of the Department of English. Full story...

Tears As Court Refuses To Vacate Order Against Umeh

Group takes Gambia to Ecowas Court Over two Nigerians on Death Row

Court Rules on Dana Crash Inquest Sept. 28

A FEDERAL High Court, Lagos has fixed September 28, for ruling on whether or not it will stop the ongoing coroner’s inquest into the Dana plane crash of June 3 in which 153 lost their lives.Justice Okon Abang chose the date after counsel on the matter adopted their applications.The application was filed on September 3 by Joseph Nwobike (SAN) on behalf of a group, the Civil Aviation Round Table Initiative, seeking to stall further proceedings in the inquest set up on June 18 by a Lagos Coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, to ascertain the cause of the crash. Full story

Court Declines Giving Ex Parte Order on House of Reps


A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has turned down an ex-parte application filed by the national chairman of African Liberation Party, Mister Osita Okereke seeking to stop the House of Representatives from commencing impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan.Justice Gabriel Kolawole in a short ruling on the application held that the court must be very certain that the impeachment proceedings is on course before it can entertain the suit in order not to interfere with the responsibilities of the Legislative arm of government. Full story...

Nigerian Takes Advocate to Court

Durban - A Nigerian man wants an advocate disciplined for allegedly saying to him that foreigners married South African women only to get permanent residency.Lucy Okeke, who was briefly married to a KwaZulu-Natal woman, has lodged a formal complaint against the advocate, Nomusa Khuzwayo, in the Durban Equality Court, accusing her of hate speech and unfair discrimination.Okeke told the court on Friday that he had met Khuzwayo through the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Law Clinic, when he needed help with visitation rights for his child from the marriage, which had been dissolved by then.

LASTMA Official’s Death: Police Drops Manslaughter Charges against Female Banker

The female banker, Mrs Yinka Johnson, who was accused by the LASTMA of having crushed one of its officials to death had had the manslaughter charges against her dropped. Mrs Yinka’s case was heard as the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos where she was charged for traffic offence on Tuesday. She was also granted bail, after spending four days in police custody.
