Nigeria: Falana Threatens Dangote Over Rights' Violations

Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), has threatened a legal action against the Dangote Group of Companies, owned by the billionaire business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, over alleged infringement on peoples' rights.While Falana disclosed that Dangote's companies would be sued for the alleged killings of innocent Nigerians in various accidents across the country, he added that oil companies would be sued for not paying compensations to some communities where they operate. Full story...

Biafra Sues Nigeria For Human Rights Violation!


While Nigerians are still reacting to the dust raised in the memoirs of renowned author, Prof Chinua Achebe in which he alleged that Late Chief Awolowo recommended that starvation should be used to subdue the Igbo during the Nigerian Civil War, a group, under the name “Bilie Human Rights Initiative” has dragged the Federal Government of Nigeria to court.The case, with suit No. FHC/OW/CS/102/2012 was filed in the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Owerri Judicial Division against the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney-General of the Federation seeking to enforce the rights of indigenous people of Biafra to self-determination and independence.

Edo to Set up Public Defender Office to Fight Rights Abuses


EDO State government is to set up a Public Defender Unit to provide free legal aid to victims of human rights abuses.Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who stated this on Monday at the unveiling of the Edo State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, said too many people were being victimised and intimidated but were unable to fight for their rights.The governor said: “Just recently, the police in the state arrested an innocent man and charged him for murder without any convincing evidence. Full story...
